Product Description
The Manila galleon was the annual treasure ship sailing between Acapulco and Manila for 250 years. THE MANILA GALLEON is dovetailing adventures:one set in 1704, the other today. Protagonists in each–one a privateer from the frontier town of New York, the other an adventurer from modern Manhattan–try to claim the prize. Each tries to understand the purpose of a mysterious statue aboard. In the past, it is possessed by a Jesuit with earth-shaking ambitions. The stakes are equally high on the modern side–a fortune in treasure. If al-Queda linked Asian terrorists seize it, the Religious World War will explode to unimaginable levels. Past and present coverge in a multi-layered climax, restoring a legend to his rightful place in history. “A MAJOR WRITER OF THE SOUTHEAST ASIAN SCENE”–Bangkok POST. “JASON SCHOONOVER IS AMONG A SMALL HANDFUL OF AUTHORS WHO INSPIRED ME TO BECOME A WRITER”–Jack DuBrul, bestselling author of PANDORA’S CURSE and DEEP FIRE RISING. Thai Gold remains my favorite novel of all time and the long-awaited sequel Opium Dream was as much literary fun for those of us who consider Southeast Asia our home!

Now Jason has come back with yet another fantastic Thinking Man’s action/adventure novel taking place in the Philippines. The difference this time is that instead of being in one time period with the ever-admirable main character Lee Rivers, in The Manila Galleon, the reader gets to see two different eras with two heroes. Both are entertaining but I was especially taken with the modern-day parts, having been to the Philippines before and loving it nearly as much as I do Thailand and Indochina.

Jason knows the geography, the culture and the expats’ world perfectly; these elements are combined and put together with an obvious love for that part of the world and his own vast experiences in archeology so that you can’t possibly get bored with both storylines in the book that are linked to each other. Get a copy, get comfortable in a chair and enjoy this latest written triumph–I know I did!

The Manila Galleon was the annual treasure ship sailing between Acapulco and Manila for 250 years. THE MANILA GALLEON launches a new sub-genre – that of the anthropological/archaeological-adventure-thriller. It’s two interlocking adventures – one in 1704, the other today. Protagonists in each – one a young privateer from the frontier town of New York, the other an adventurer from modern Manhattan-try to claim the galleon. Each tries to understand the purpose of a mysterious statue aboard. In the past, it is possessed by a Jesuit with world-shaking ambitions. The stakes are equally high on the modern side – a fortune in treasure. If al-Queda linked Asian terrorists seize it, the Religious World War we’re engaged in will explode to unimaginable levels. Past and present collide in a startling multi-layered climax, restoring a historic Legend to his rightful place in history. “A major writer of the Southeast Asian scene.” – Bangkok Post. “Jason Schoonover is among a small handful of authors who inspired me to become a writer.” – Jack DuBrul, bestselling author of PANDORA’S CURSE and DEEP FIRE RISING.
